Course overview
This module is for registered healthcare practitioners working in a clinical practice setting that requires them to use Enhanced Clinical Assessment Skills in the delivery of patient care. Applicants are required to have support from their line manager as well as an appropriately qualified supervisor in their practice area.
This module will help practitioners develop enhanced physical assessment skills in the following areas: history taking, clinical decision making, cardiac, respiratory, abdominal, musculoskeletal, ENT, eyes, mental health, child, skin. There is approximately 60 hours teaching provided on the university campus at Avery Hill and in addition to this, each student will need to complete 240 hrs self-directed study time to successfully achieve the learning outcomes of the module.
The module is delivered with students also studying a similar programme at master’s level. The module runs twice a year.
Learning Outcomes
You will acquire increased knowledge and skills to effectively perform enhanced/advanced clinical assessment.
You will also gain the confidence and competence to meet the objectives of your professional role and organisation.
Assessment
- Clinical Case Study Presentation: 15-minute presentation followed by a 5-minute viva
- Practice Assessment Document: Assessment of a range of practice competencies (pass/fail)
