Course overview
This course aims to examine the concepts of health promotion and behaviour change and its theoretical underpinnings. It aims to locate them within the individual, community, and structural domains to enable students to learn and gather evidence around various strategies of health promotion. It will also enable students to apply theory to the practical implementation of health promotion and behaviour change interventions relevant to employment-based activities.
Assessment
- Presentation: 100% weighting, 50% pass mark. Learning Outcomes: 1 - 4
- Outline Details: Group e-poster presentation + individual reflection on a Simulated Health Promotion Campaign Pitch.
- Group work followed by an individual reflection. 7-8 minutes of recorded presentation by the group. Added with 2-3 slides containing individual reflection
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion the student will be able to:
- Develop insights into the concepts of behaviour change applied to health promotion across individual, community and societal domains.
- Describe and apply key theories of health promotion and behaviour change.
- Critically discuss global health promotion targets and strategies.
- Critically evaluate a variety of approaches and frameworks used in the delivery of health promotion including their social, cultural, and ethical appropriateness.
