Course overview

The module meets the full requirements of the nationally recognised Practice Educator Professional Standards.

You will work with a final year student on placement, organising learning opportunities, enabling learning and undertaking an assessment of their practice in preparation for qualification and registration with Social Work England.

Teaching and Learning builds upon the skills, knowledge and values developed in PEPS 1 through working with a second student. You will evidence critical reflection and analysis of your practice in line with PEPS domain D, continuing professional development in practice education, including an examination of the broader organisational and policy context of social work education and training.

All PEPS 2 trainees will be allocated a Practice Assessor for support and assessment, including direct observation of practice working with a student on placement. It is the responsibility of the employing agency to allocate a Practice Assessor, who must meet the PEPs requirements (BASW 2022).

Learning Outcomes

  • You will achieve Stage 2 of the Practice Educator Professional Standards, which will enable you to teach and assess social work students on their final placement.
  • This could also act as a stepping off point in preparation for other roles in teaching and assessing social work students in other contexts.

Assessment

The module is assessed by a portfolio and essay which are submitted in May 2026.
